The Introduction to Rocketry programme gives you the chance to design, build, and launch your own rocket within your first weeks at Manchester. No experience needed — you’ll learn everything from stability and thrust to CAD design and safe assembly.
Across four weeks, you’ll move from concept to flight, finishing with two launch days at Sale Water Park under ManSEDS’ established operating agreement with Trafford Council and Parkway Model Flying Club. You’ll work with real motors, real hardware, and real engineering tools used across the aerospace sector.
This programme is ManSEDS’ largest introductory activity, with around 120 students expected to take part. It’s fast‑paced, practical, and one of the most exciting ways to start your degree.
Learn rocket stability, thrust, and recovery systems
Design your rocket using OpenRocket and SolidWorks
Build your rocket in supervised workshop sessions
Launch your rocket twice at a real flight site
Collaborate with Space Electronics students during flight testing
Rocketry gives you immediate hands‑on engineering experience, builds confidence with tools and software, and provides a direct pathway into ManSEDS’ national competition teams and advanced rocketry projects.
