Electric propulsion is one of the fastest‑growing areas of interest among UK university space engineering teams, and ManSEDS is now joining that movement. This year marks the first year of our Electric Propulsion project, with the team currently in the planning and early design phase. The goal is to explore systems such as ion thrusters and Hall‑effect concepts, giving students experience with the technologies used in modern satellites and deep‑space missions.
Electric propulsion is a cornerstone of the UK satellite industry, used in orbit‑raising, station‑keeping, and long‑duration spacecraft operations. Gaining experience in this field is extremely valuable for students aiming to work in satellite design, space systems engineering, or propulsion research.
As the project develops, students will work on:
